Most of my life has been spent trying to “fit in.” When I hit my 40’s, I realized that “fitting in” was killing me. My 40’s have been what I call, my “cacoon phase,” where I withdrew from what was my “normal,” to shed several layers, started listening to my inner/higher self, and began the process of becoming who I have always been.

My early 40’s was also the period when I found mushrooms. It’s not a coincidence that it coincides with the shedding of layers and my “becoming.“ Mushrooms have opened up the door, to my rich inner world, that I had shut out, while trying to “fit in.”

“Shedding of layers” and “cocooning” sound so peaceful and calm. I laugh, as I often have that soothing effect on chaos, change, and surrender. It’s not at all! What it looks like is the ego playing tug-of-war with my spirit. It’s an all-out war. Shedding my corporate persona and my executive life, was both scary, and uplifting. I struggled with identity, worth, and passion -who am I without this corporate persona? Am I doing the right thing? can I survive? Am I good enough? If I’m not doing the right thing, I can’t handle another day of this life. Those were the thoughts and questions I struggled with every day, during that time. As well as doubt, around every corner and every decision. Mushrooms helped me to find my center in that chaos. I began to appreciate the beauty in my life, find peace in the midst of chaos and calm in a sea of doubt. The “noise” that used to plague my mind, became less and less. Until there was stillness.

I’ve now changed my course and dedicated my life to finding joy, laughter, and passion, in my own life, as well as to helping others find theirs, with the help of psychedelics. I’ve joined Santa Cruz Psychedelic Society, to both learn and to help build a community of support for others, as there’s no need to do it alone. There’s so much to learn, do and grow. Having a community to lean on, changes everything.
